About the event

Drawing is the backbone of my creative practice, everything else stems from this starting point.

"Excellent course content, delivered precisely and confidently , showing Dionne's huge depth of knowledge."

In this first set of 4 lessons we will be covering: Continuous line drawing, Landscape, Negative space and Perspective.

Join me on this 4 week journey to enliven your creativity and find joy in observing the world around you.  Each week I shall demonstrate a new drawing technique and talk you through a series of approaches.

"I want to let you know that I am really enjoying the drawing class. I’ve never drawn before and am loving my time doing the home work. I appreciate your style and your way of engaging with the participants, and I am impressed by your straightforward explanations which makes everything sound so easy!  Thank you!"

I will offer you a collection of drawing exercises to explore each week: they are ideal for beginners yet are designed to stretch those who feel more confident with paper and pencil.

"The most important benefit for me is the course's accessibility whilst family commitments are so important. I'm away from both my studio and the creative communities I work & study with. Your courses have helped to sustain me during an arduous time. Thank you."

We will be using fairly basic materials that you will be able to pull together at home: paper/sketchbook, pencils [HB, 2B, 8B if you have them availble], tracing paper/baking parchment, fine line pen or biro, coloured paper &/or colouring media [ie felt tip pens, coloured pencils, any type of paints/dyes/inks, wax crayons, oil bars or pastels], scissors, glue/glue stick [the items in brackets are examples not essentials].  Remember it's not what you use, it's how you use it that's important!

Join live: Thursday 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th September 7pm GMT [ZOOM lesson + PDF notes]  NB. recordings of these sessions will be available for one week after the class to watch at your convenience. [Advance notice  - Thursday 10th September will start one hour early at 6pm]

Note there are a limited number of places.

On booking you will be sent an automated confirmation and I shall email you a few days before the first class with your Zoom invitation.

 My Basic Drawing Kit

[I usually save this info for the class, but undoubtedly you'll find it useful]. Other than the sketchbook - everything needs to fit into a small purse style bag, so its lightweight and easy to grab.

  • Personally I like Pink Pig Sketchbooks but I also find Seawhite very good - I'm partial to a square book but that's personal preference - Having a hard backed book can be useful when you are out and about.
  • A small collection of graphite pencils and/or solid graphite sticks [HB, 2B, 6B, 8B] are great.  A retractable pencil/piece of graphite can be very convenient.
  • I rarely use an eraser but a smudging stick is good fun.
  • A black fine line pen - permanent
  • Bottle brush &/or brush pen
  • Travel water colour set - we aren't really dealing with colour in this collection of classes but I do use these when I'm out & about

Here's  link to Art Van Go I couldn't find the bottle brushes on their site but that doesn't mean they don't have them in stock!

Then Beyond Measure : a Yorkshire based business with beautiful things!
